Introduction to Hispanic Literature with Dr. Maria Zielina, introduced different genres of Hispanic literature. We began our semester by analyzing and discussing Don Juan Manuel’s, El Conde Lucanor (1575) and similar Hispanic texts. We continued through and finalized the course with Federico Garcia Lorca’s successful play, La Casa de Bernarda Alba (1945). Throughout this class I learned the fundamentals of analyzing various types of literature like narratives, poetry, and drama/theater. Dr. Maria Zielina provided extensive examinations which included an in-class exam and a take home exam with the purpose of helping us gain more knowledge on each literary text. The in-class lectures and discussions were helpful in learning more about an author, historical information, and different ideas regarding the analysis of each of these literary works. There were three assigned analytical essays required for each unit including narrative, poetry, and drama these essays were helpful because we were given good pointers that help with my longer essays in other classes. I decided to do my group final presentation on analyzing, La Casa de Bernarda Albatherefore, my group and I created a presentation to provide our class with our analysis of the drama.
