I completed this Reading and Writing in Spanish course while I was abroad in Sevilla, Spain. I found the course both helpful and interesting because I was able to experience and closely analyze the differences that exists between the Spanish language in Spain and the Spanish language in Latin America. Throughout the course we read Antonio Skarmeta's book, El Cartero de Neruda (1985) and analyzed it individually as well as with our peers in class. The course also provided us with the opportunity of practicing different forms of writing such as composing emails, humoristic papers, newspaper articles, and cinematic critiques. Being exposed to these distinct forms of writings challenged me because previously I had only been required to complete argumentative, analytical, and research essays.
