During the Spring semester of 2017 I decided to head to Sevilla, Spain to complete my cultural internalization and language immersion major learning outcome requirement. During my semester in Spain I attended la Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Sevilla and took four courses that exposed me to the cultural aspects of Spanish life. I was able to interact in various occasions with Spanish students and although it was difficult for me to adjust to the differences that are present in the Spanish in Spain and Latin American Spanish it was interesting to learn about these differences. Through the courses I took in Universidad Pablo de Olavide I learned about the historical structures, gastronomy, and cultural celebration of Spain and the knowledge became useful because it helped me understand my surroundings. When I I would interact with the Spanish students or citizens of the area they would often mention things that I would not be able to understand if I were not taking the courses as was taking.
I lived and studied in Sevilla, Spain for a semester and definitely feel that it helped me understand the importance of the Spanish language and culture. I am sure I developed various Spanish speaking, writing, and reading skills. However, when I was abroad I also had the opportunity to travel to other countries in Europe in which I also experienced different cultural values. Overall, even though I was hesitant at first to move so far away from home I am satisfied with my accomplishments of my spring semester abroad.
